The problem

A retail bullion dealer prices every product against a market that moves all day. Static prices go stale within minutes, and staff had no shared place to manage stock, approvals, and the dealer's own exposure against the live spot rate.

What I did

Built the storefront, the staff portal, and the mobile app, all reading a single live market feed, plus the hedging calculator the business actually loses money without.

How it works

One pricing pipeline drives every surface. Prices derive from live spot plus a per-weight premium, reservations lock a quote for ten minutes, and the staff portal nets the day's committed orders to say what to trade to flatten before close.

The hard parts

  1. 01

Deriving every displayed price from one feed so the three surfaces can never disagree.

  2. 02

Premiums that scale per weight: fabrication cost is close to fixed per piece, so it amortises as unit size rises, and silver carries a higher percentage premium than gold.

  3. 03

Staying inside a free-tier market data quota while prices update continuously.

What changed

  • Storefront, staff portal, and mobile app run against one live pricing source of truth.
  • An end-of-day hedging calculator turns the day's orders into a single trade instruction.
