The problem

The inherited site had shipped a sitemap full of placeholder URLs for months, priced products at zero in its structured data, and listed the wrong Saturday hours. Each fix by hand drifted out of sync with the next.

What I did

Imported the live site into version control and rebuilt it as a prerendered static catalogue where SEO is a tested invariant, not a checklist.

How it works

Routes, titles, descriptions, H1s, and sitemap priorities all come from one table that the router, the prerenderer, and the sitemap generator read. Every route ships as static HTML with JSON-LD, optimised images, and an IndexNow ping on deploy.

The hard parts

  1. 01

Making a placeholder sitemap structurally impossible rather than just fixed once.

  2. 02

Catching layout overflow and broken navigation in the built output, not just in development.

What changed

  • 75 tests and five verify scripts check the built site before it deploys.
  • Real business bugs fixed at the source: zero prices in structured data, wrong opening hours, and the owner's name exposed on the site.
